ABSTRACT

Objective To understand serological detection results of syphilis among hospitalized patients in a gen-eral hospital, and provide new ideas for further prevention and treatment of syphilis. Methods Clinical data of inpa-tients with abnormal serological detection results for syphilis in a hospital from January 2012 to December 2013 were analyzed. Results A total of 164442 patients were admitted to a hospital from January 2012 to December 2013, 112576 of whom were performed syphilis serological screening,2048 cases were with abnormal results of serologi-cal detection for syphilis. The abnormal serological detection results were mainly in patients of 31~ and 41~ years (39.06% ),followed by patients of 51~,61~ years (34.42% ),and≥71 years (15.63% );unemployed people (34.08% ),farmers(23.05% ),and retirees(19.19% )were the main population with abnormal results. The abnor-mal serological detection results distributed in all 36 departments, the main departments were departments of respir-atory medicine(9.86% ),gynaecology(7.13% ),and cardiovascular internal medicine(6.88% ). Non-marital sex is the main route of transmission(56.79% );the main syphilis serological detection results were both positive for Treponemapallidum particle agglutination (TPPA)assay and rapid plasma reagin (RPR)(46.14% ),as well as TPPA positive and RPR negative (43.31% ). 860 (41.99% )patients were with latent syphilis. Conclusion The current status of patients with abnormal serological detection results of syphilis is not optimistic, mainly concentrated in patients of 31-50 years. It is necessary to strengthen publicity and education on prevention and treatment of syphilis, implement syphilis prevention and treatment policy, intensity syphilis screening,so as to pre-vent the epidemic and spread of syphilis.

ABSTRACT

[Objective] To detect and genotype HPV in cutaneous wart tissue.[Methods] This study recruited 132 outpatients with cutaneous warts in the Affiliated Hospital of Zunyi Medical College.Of the 132outpatients,46 had verruca vulgaris,38 had verruca plantaris, and 48 had verruca plana.Ten healthy human and 15 patients with condyloma acuminatum served as the control.Tissue specimens were obtained from the lesions of these patients as well as from the normal skin of the healthy controls.DNA was extracted from the specimens followed by PCR amplification with general and type-specific primers.[Results] Of the 132 wart specimens,128 (97.0%) were positive for HPV,111 (84.1%) for HPV2,89 (67.4%) for multiple types of HPV,55 (41.7%) for two types of HPV,28 (21.2%) for three types of HPV,and 6 (4.6%) for four types of HPV.The most prevalent HPV types were HPV2 followed by HPV1 in verruca vulgaris and verruca plantaris,HPV2 followed by HPV10,HPV3 and HPVl in verruca plana.Multiple types of HPV were identified in 50.0%(23/46) of the verruca vulgaris specimens,76.3% (29/38) of the verruca plantaris specimens, and 77.1%(37/48) of the verruea plana specimens.Among patients infected with more than one type of HPV,the combination of HPV1 and 2 was the most common (35,39.3%),followed the combination of HPV1,2 and 10(12,13.5%).[Conclusion]s The most prevalent HPV type appears to be HPV2,followed by HPV1,in patients with cutaneous warts in Zunyi area of Guizhou province.HPV2 infection is associated with various types of cutaneous warts. There is a high incidence of coinfection with multiple types of HPV in patients with cutaneous warts, especially in those with verruca plana.Moreover,HPV3 and 10 are newly identified in verruca vulgaris,HPV 10 in verruca plantaris,HPV 1 and HPV7 in veruca plana.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the expression of Aiolos transcription factor in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE),and to explore their clinical significance. Methods Western blot was performed to detect the protein expression of Aiolos transcription factor in PBMCs from 19 patients with active SLE,13 patients with stable SLE and 30 healthy volunteers. The relationship between the expression of Aiolos transcription factor and SLE disease activity index (SLEDAI) was analyzed. Results A significant difference was noted in the relative expression of Aiolos transcription factor between SLE patients and normal controls(0.56±0.17 vs 0.81±0.09,P<0.01) and between patients in active stage and those in stable stage (0.52±0.14 vs 0.65±0.19,P<0.05).In addition, the expression level of Aiolos protein was negatively correlated with SLEDAI in patients (r=-0.65,P<0.01).Conclusion A decrease is observed in the expression of Aiolos transcription factor in SLE patients.which is correlated with the disease activity in SLE.

ABSTRACT

Objective To apply autoimplantation technique in the treatment of verruca plana, and to investigate the mechanisms of it. Methods The changes of T cell subsets and IL-2 level in the peripheral blood of the patients with verruca plana, in conjunction with histopathological and immunohistochemical features of verruca plana tissue at reactive stage were studied by APAAP and radioimmunoassay, respectively. The tissue specimens were studied by H.E stain and immunohistochemical techniques. Results Significantly decreased CD4+ cell numbers, CD4+/CD8+ ratio and IL-2 level were found before treatment, compared with those in healthy controls (P 0.05). Lymphocytic infiltration, epidermal edema and dissolution were shown in the histopathological study. There were CD45RO+, CD6+, CD4+ and CD8+ cells in the lymphocytic infiltration, but no CD20+ and Mac387- cells. Langerhans cells with positive S-100 protein were observed in basal layer of the epidermis and reaction area. Conclusions T cell-mediated immune responses could be improved in autoimplantation, the warts are rejected mainly by of CD8+ subset cytotoxicity.
